About bamboo flooring

In case of underfloor heating, unlike the traditional heating method, it is necessary to pay attention to the type of flooring and the type of wood. When heated, it is recommended to choose more stable types of wood, important to react as low and as slowly as possible to changes in humidity and temperature. For evaluation of different types of wood according to the Janka stability scale, one of the most stable ones is recognized: treated bamboo fiber, mesquimit, merbau, white ash, hard maple.

In Germany it is recommended to use floor heating for a floor heating of not more than 0,15 m2K / W.

Thermal conductivity -  is the property of the material to waste heat, it is thermal insulation material properties. This property is described by the thermal conductivity coefficient λ. The lower the λ value, the better the insulating properties are the material.

Thermal resistance -  is the ability of a product of a certain (defined) thickness to resist thermal penetration. Thermal resistance depends on the thermal conductivity (λ) of the material, the thickness of the insulating layer (d) and is calculated according to the formula: R = d / λ

The higher the thermal resistance, the better the insulating properties of the material. The thermal resistance R is expressed in m2 K / W.

λ = 0,26 solid pressed bamboo boards

Floor thermal conductivity calculations:

14 mm thick
R = 0,014/0.26 = 0,053 m2K/W solid pressed bamboo board

BAMBOO FLOORING FEATURES

RENEWABLE RESOURCE

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet, capable of self renewal and offering a better alternative to the destruction of the world's forests. Like grass, its farvest is removed again and again from the same plant. All solid bamboo floors are officially assessed to be CO2
neutral or better over the complete lifecycle.

SOLID STRAND WOVEN BAMBOO

Highly-density, solid structural flooring;
They can are polished and refurbished if necessary.

EASY INSTALLATION

Bamboo flooring can be install: nailed or glued down method.

HARDNESS & DURABILITY

With a hardnes and density similar to the best hardwood floors, solid strand woven bamboo floors are suitable for use even in heavy duty applications;
According to the Janka scale, they are more then 2 times harder than oak floorboards.

HEALTHY

As a product from nature, solid strand woven bamboo floors are anti-static and anti-allergic, and thus facilitate a healthy indoor environment.

STYLE ADVANTAGES

Large selection of colour, style and finish;
Can be adapted to any interior style.

HEATED FLOORING

Solid strand woven bamboo offers a perfect solution for installation on floor heating;
Very good thermal conductivity;
Thermal resistance of 14 mm thick solid floorboards: strand woven bamboo 0.053 m2K/W.

HIGH STABILITY

Because of the composition of individual strips, solid strand woven bamboo flooring will shrink and swell less than solid wood species, providing more stable floor.

MAINTENANCE

Simple daily maintenance;
No chemicals are needed.

JANKA HARDNESS SCALE

The hardness scale of Janka is used to measure the hardness and density of a bamboo or other wood floor material. The higher the material's assessment on the Janka's scale, the corresponding material is harder and more durable than the floor covering.

Janka hardness scale:

Brazilian walnut 3680

Kumaru 3540

Strand woven bamboo flooring 2900

Jatoba-Brazilian cherry 2350

Mesquite tree 2345

Srand woven palm flooring 2250

Srand woven mulberry flooring 2200

Cabrauva-Santos redwood 2200

Pecan nut 1800

Maple 1450

White oak 1360

If you are considering buying a bamboo or other hardwood floor, Janka's hardness scale can be a very useful and insightful tool. The hardness scale of Janka is used to measure the hardness and density of a bamboo or other wood floor material. Specifically, the Janka test measures the force required to push a 11.28 millimeter diameter steel ball into the wood at half-ball diameter. The diameter is chosen so that the area of the comprised circle is about 100 square millimeters.

The higher the material's assessment on the Janka's scale, the corresponding material is harder and more durable than the floor covering.

When assessing a rusty extruded bamboo, a bamboo of strand woven bamboo, it's important to note that, unlike traditional or carbonated bamboo (vertical or horizontal), the bamboo of strand woven bamboo has extraordinary durability and stiffness. After analyzing various evaluations, the bamboo of strand woven bamboo is evaluated at a minimum of 2900 points, which allows us to describe it as extremely durable and solid material. Depending on the technical parameters of this material, this flooring is recommended as a great choice for those customers who need to wear and other highly durable coatings for environmental stimuli (for example, keeping dogs with small children).

Note:

It is recommended to use the Janka scale only as general guidelines for comparing different types of wooden floors. The results may vary, depending on where the wood was cut.

The Janka scale gives a general understanding of the hardness of the wood, but the longevity of the flooring is determined by many other factors, including cutting method (simple cutting, radial cutting), cell density, decoration, construction.

The Janka hardness test - is a measure of the force required for the ball to be pressed.
